LOCAL ARTIST ROBERT GROGAN RECOGNIZED FOR HIS WORK IN SOUTH AFRICA

A South African magazine, Franschhoek Style, has featured Robert Grogan, a Sun Valley painter, in their recent winter issue. Robert lives in South Africa part of each year. Six years ago he began mentoring a young Zimbabwean refugee in painting, helping Alex Zinhanga to begin his art career. Grogan and Zinhanga painted together weekly as Robert started teaching him landscape plein air painting. The men now maintain a close friendship and work together as often as possible.

Zinhanga had never seen an oil painting before beginning his study, but he was proficient in drawing. Robert saw art as a way that Alex could work himself out of poverty. Alex now has a loyal group of collectors of his work and is better able to help his family still living in Zimbabwe.
