Robert is a member of Oil Painters of America, the California Art Club, Plein Air Painters of Idaho, the South Africa Society of Artists, and a Signature Member of the American Impressionist Society. Robert began studying painting full time in 1994, after living and working in Alaska for many years. He divides his time between Sun Valley, Idaho and Franschhoek, South Africa. For the past several years, Robert has been mentoring a young man from Zimbabwe, Alex Zinhanga, who is now living as a political refugee in South Africa. Robert's paintings have received attention in museum shows, gallery exhibits, and national competitions. He has served as the artist in residence at the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson, Wyoming, and his paintings from his recent book, Kalahari Summer in Photographs and Oils, were featured in an exhibition at the William Humphreys Nattional Art Museum in Kimberley, South Africa.
In 2014 at the homecoming event for Texas State University, Robert was honored with a Distinguished Alumni Award in recognition of his lifetime achievements in his professions of public finance, art, and photography, as well as his philanthropic endeavors.
